I am still reviewing the YouTube videos from SteemFest 4 and I couldn’t help but be happy, but I didn’t know why.
I couldn’t help but be encouraged, but I didn’t know why. Then suddenly while listening to @aggroed talk about his dream to be able to trade everything and reflecting on his talk about smart contracts and python, a theme of minimizing complexity to use smart contracts where absolute safety was needed and python and JavaScript in others, then he spoke of trust but verify as a model for keeping transactions on the SteemBlockchain but not replicating them on the steem sidechain, meaning the side chain isn’t bogged down being a copy of the steem blockchain or at least that’s my non-developer understanding. We can always verify what the side chain says by checking the steem blockchain. Trust but verify.
Then he gave his presentation about how the steem side chain started and what it will become, his hope of trading steem for dollars and other fiat on the steem engine DEX. This was very exciting because it opens up more use cases here on the side chain and on steem blockchain. He spoke of securities trading on the side chain and the goal of using the blockchain to move money. He described the difficulties, but didn’t say he was waiting for someone else to solve the problem. He was reaching out within the community to get other minds working on the solution. This was exciting to me from an investing standpoint because being able to send fiat to the steem engine DEX will facilitate me trading in and out of Steem, fiat and several Tokens.
Additionally, the idea of opening up the Steem engine DEX to Securities trading means we can in the future use securities tokens here like on Ethereum. This is a different version of Tokenization of securities then SMT are. This version allows the Tokenization of Fractional ownership, ain’t small investors to invest in projects they otherwise couldn’t afford. This also makes our steem side chain and our Steem blockchain an attractive source of raising funds via Token and Fractional ownership. Real estate investment via Tokenization has advantages for the real estate developer in terms of controlling cost and repayment. It has already been used in the UK for multi-billion dollar real estate projects, so the securitization of Steem Engine DEX starts the process towards hosting such projects here versus Ethereum.
I couldn’t help but be excited about the new investing possibilities developing here on the Steem blockchain.
This presentation like many others had a theme. I felt the theme was people are waiting to build things anymore, they are doing it. People are utilizing the existing infra structure of Steem blockchain, Steem side chain, hive mind, Mira and soon SMT to create their businesses be it S-linterlands, Drug Wars, Next Colony, Actifit, SteemHunt, ApPICS or one of others not listed here. People are building businesses and their user bases are growing. Splinterlands is now the number five Dapp in all of know cryptocurrency. Twelve dApps based on the Steem blockchain are in the top 100 dApps by user base and transactions per day.
I am excited and continue to invest in Steem and several of these other businesses on the Steem blockchain. I am reminded by one of Warren Buffets quotes. The billionaire value investor is often asked why he didn’t invest in various successful projects. His reply was that he invests in what he knows, so he can determine if it’s undervalued and really has a future.
...invest in what you know. People lose money in the stock market investing in companies that other people recommend. I only invest in business and business models I know or I can learn. If it’s to complicated for me to understand the business model and understand why people will buy their product I don’t invest.<
It’s an exciting time to be invested here on the Steem blockchain. Our patience will be rewarded.
