I just discovered something really cool from @mysearchisover CoinGecko has a big countdown banner webpage. It’s counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until HardFork 21 and it invites you to share the news of the countdown with all your friends. The webpage also contains a brief synopsis of HardFork 21.
The synopsis:
On Tue, 27 August 2019 15:00:00 UTC, the Steem blockchain will undergo a network upgrade in the form of a hard fork. This is the 21st hard fork, thereby coined the term Steem Hardfork 21 (or Steem HF21).
What changes are coming to Steem after Hardfork 21?
An On-chain decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) will be introduced as a form of Steem Proposal System (SPS). Users on the Steem blockchain will be able to submit proposals for funding and vote on proposals that are funded. A governance system like this strive to make the Steem blockchain more inclusive.
There will be changes to the economics of Steem reward distribution. Mainly, post payouts now factor in the distribution of votes, this encourages stakeholders to distribute their votes to more content. Good news for curators as the curation reward will increase from 25% to 50%
A separate Downvote Pool allows users to downvote posts and comments without affecting their voting power.
What do you need to do?
As a Steem user, you do not need to do anything during Steem hard fork 21. Expect changes and potential downtime in some Steem Dapps as nodes are upgrading.
Conclusion:
The counter is really cool looking and the links to all the social media sites is a cool idea. I like how CoinGecko is making this a media event to increase awareness and interest in the Steem blockchain. The counter reminds me of end of the year festivities and the ball drop in New York’s Time Square. The synopsis is pretty good and fairly informative. They thought of things I hadn’t though of like warning people to watch out for scammers telling them to move their coins to certain wallets during the HardFork as a way to steal peoples coins. I think that is very helpful. CoinGecko runs a witness node, so I plan to vote for them.
