The Filipino Orchid is a unique variety of orchid due its color, and structure. It has very large leaves and it’s buds, flowers and stems are all bright pink. This is such a bonus because the buds are beautiful to begin with and then they turn into beautiful pink flowers.

These are Phillipino Orchids from the island country of The Republic of the Philippines. These are different from your usual orchids because orchids usually have thick main stems and small thick leaves, so it needs to be watered 1-2 times a day if indoors and more often if it’s outside in direct sunlight. In contrast the Filipino variety has very large thin leaves and very big flowers, which need a lot of water.

I have some hanging from trees and some in pots under a roof, to see which grows the best.

These are the buds.

They are a bright pink, unlike other buds which are green, then brown, then the color of the orchid.

The flower is slight different shade of pink and is beautiful to behold.

Conclusion

These are beautiful flowers, uniquely colored and uniquely built, but diversity in a species is often the key to its survival.
These are harder to care for because their leaves are large and thin, more suited perhaps for soaking up the sunlight for photosynthesis in a rainy tropical environment, but in drier climates it’s a liability I guess. These have an extraordinary large number of buds and gorgeous flowers. I am sure the coloration aides in its pollination in a rain forest full of plants where the size and color probably attracts bees and other pollinating insects, which are needed for survival. They are more trouble the some orchids and are very thirsty, but I think their beauty makes them worth the extra work?
What do you think?
