The second quote I would like to review: Life is a “journey” not a “destination” so enjoy the ride.
One of my favorite sayings is “Life is not a destination, it’s a journey, enjoy the ride”. To me this quote means you should not wait until you achieve your ultimate goal or goals to enjoy life. To me it means that not only is life not a destination like arriving at your ultimate goal, but life is really about the process by which you achieve your goals.
In keeping with the theme of the journey, life is full of beautiful and exciting things to look at, listen to, smell or taste or feel. We should enjoy the scenery, the meals, the music, the architecture and the people we meet along the way. If we just focus on the college diploma, we miss out on the college experience. The friends, the sports, the music the variety of people we meet, languages we here and things we learn. These are meant to be shared experiences and all meant to be savored. We sometimes focus to heavily on the finish line; the attainment of our ultimate goals.
It is the journey, each fun filled or interesting step along the way that we should enjoy. We should never forget to enjoy our progress, our challenges and small successes along the journey. These should be chewed slowly, savored and enjoyed. The journey or path you walk to achieve your goals is your life. This includes school, jobs, teachers, mentors, your students, your competitors and your allies. All these people, places and things that you meet, see or experience as you walk your path and your journey towards your goal, this is your life. So my advice is be present, experience the locations, enjoy the food, make real friends and make the effort to stay in touch because these people are part of your life and some may become lifelong friends. So be present, be a witness, be a participant be a part of it. These joys, sorrows, discoveries, surprises, met expectations and failed expectations. It means to derive pleasure only from your ultimate goal, like a college diploma, but also enjoy college. It is the journey which is full of memories, adventures and fun. Perhaps some sadness also, but it is said “It is the sad times which make us enjoy the good times to its fullest”.
In short, life is a journey, enjoy the ride.
