This is an orchid. A lovely flower which comes in many solid colors, stripes and sometimes spots. The flower is known by its characteristic architecture and for its longevity. The blooms of living plants last more then a month. This is far more then the 2-3 day lifespan on cut flowers and the 7-10 lifespan of most flowering plants. The orchid is also easy to care for in terms of water only a few times a week and protection from snails or small birds, which love to eat the buds, the precursors of the flowers the plant is know for. The orchid plant can be 6 inches to 6 feet in length. The largest varieties are know as Queen Orchids.
